Statements of the speakers

Some of the hidden challenges of complex projects stem from political and social risk. Political risk is a function of a project's funding mechanism and the support of its political stakeholders. Social risk results from public attitudes about projects as well as generalperceptions of risk. While project managers have lots of tools to address traditional risks that projects encounter, such as going over budget or schedule, they also need to focus on political and social risks, which are likely to play an increasing role in an era of constrained government resources.”

Dr. Edward Hoffman, Director NASA Academy of Program/Project & Engineering Leadership

Entrepreneurial spirit and negotiations skills are essential to start a business, but project and risk management are the keys for a sustainable business development. In the fast transformation of Eastern European markets, highly motivated young manager are eager to achieve a maximum of success in shortest time. It is an art to combine improvisation, purpose oriented acting and in the same time following rules meant to avoid mistakes. ”

Andrea Pal, Deputy GM and CFO, Northern Capital Gateway Ltd.

„ The monitoring of project risks is an essential part of project management.“

DI. Dr. Peter Wölfl, Project managemet Vienna North Hospital, Wiener Krankenanstaltenverbund

Sustainability is the word of the moment. And what project management  have to do with it? We can have wonderful and sustainable products, but depending on the way we create and implement them, it could change dramatically the way they will be perceived as sustainable. It is now imperative that Project Managers start analyzing sustainable aspects of their projects, including two more dimensions (social and environmental) to the economical side of a project. Social and environment risks cannot be disregard anymore and definition of sustainable KPIs is the challenge of the current project management. After all, what is the planet we intend to leave to our kids.”

Jairo Cardoso De Oliveira, Head of PM Office, Siemens Ltda.
